Accelerate is R.E.M.’s 14th studio album, released in 2008. The album was intended as a departure from their last album, Around the Sun, and was complimented for the aggressive, purposeful sound of the songs. Stipe said his lyrics on Accelerate were inspired by the contemporary state of the nation, saying, “When the empire is going down the toilet, it’s easy to write great, angry songs” (Spin). This album represents the long sought-after release of Creedence Clearwater Revival’s legendary Woodstock performance in its entirety. CCR were one of the few bands to appear at Woodstock, who had already achieved notable chart success. However, for many their appearance flew under the radar – largely in part to the band not appearing in the movie or the soundtrack which were released post-festival. Their hour-long set took place shortly after midnight on 17 August 1969, a later than planned start due to the Grateful Dead’s set over-running. Kicking off with “Born on the Bayou,” the album features the band’s biggest singles of the day, plus selections off their first three LPs, including “Commotion,” “Ninety-Nine and a Half (Won’t Do)” and “Bootleg.” Full of creative energy, John, Tom, Stu, and Doug delve deep into their music, playing extended improvisations of “I Put a Spell on You,” “Keep on Chooglin’” and “Suzie Q.”

• The Cats was released in December 1959 on New Jazz, a subsidiary of Prestige Records. While spending time in Detroit in the mid-1950s, John Coltrane met pianist Tommy Flanagan. Fellow locals—drummer Louis Hayes, bassist Doug Watkins, and guitarist Kenny Burrell—joined the two, along with trumpeter Idrees Sulieman, for an energetic session. • Though he became one of the most highly valued jazz pianists, Tommy Flanagan’s appearances during this era were primarily as a sideman: well-appreciated by his fellow musicians, but not recognized for his display of superior abilities by a wider audience. • This album let the pianist shine, containing nearly all Flanagan-penned tunes. Coltrane, Burrell, and Idrees Sulieman were choice, empathic soloists, and it is a delight to hear them interact with Tommy and his rhythm section. • This 180-gram reissue was cut from the original analog tapes by Kevin Gray and pressed at RTI, and comes packaged in a tip-on jacket with Obi.SKU: 888072505049 -
