Morrissey’s new album of covers includes songs by the likes Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison, Laura Nyro, Dionne Warwick and many more as well as having guests vocals by Billie Joe Armstrong (Green Day), LP, Ed Droost (Grizzly Bear), among others. As the lead singer of the Smiths, Morrisey’s theatrical poetic lyrics connected powerfully with a legion of youth. A few years after the break up Morrissey began his solo career (1988).

Coming up in the late 80’s in Los Angeles’ Silver Lake/Echo Park scene, L7 drew from a diverse set of influences: Motorhead, Ramones, feminist Bay Area punks Frightwig. They made fun of the Sunset Strip’s bouffants and machismo while playing the same kinds of flying-V guitars. They also had no patience for grunge’s gloom, even though their friends were in bands like Nirvana, Mudhoney and Soundgarden.
A raunchy punk stampede that predated both grunge and girlpower, L7’s self-titled debut is proof that chicks can rock just as hard, if not harder, as any guy. A surplus of rockin’ punk/metal guitars and driving drums equal 11 tracks to remind yourself that it?s ok to bang your head, HARD. L7 is the band’s debut album, released in 1988 and produced by Brett Gurewitz.

Morrissey has announced his next studio album. I Am Not a Dog on a Chain arrives March 20 via BMG.The 11-song album, recorded in Saint-Remy-de-Provence, France, and Hollywood’s Sunset Sound and produced by frequent collaborator Joe Chiccarelli, is preceded by first single “Bobby, Don’t You Think They Know?” featuring Motown R&B great Thelma Houston. The new LP marks Morrissey’s first collection of original material since 2017’s Low in High School. Since then, the singer has released 2019’s California Son, a record of cover songs including tracks by Joni Mitchell, Roy Orbison, Bob Dylan, and others. In addition to the title track, the new album features very Morrissey song titles like “Darling, I Hug a Pillow,” “What Kind of People Live in These Houses?” and “My Hurling Days Are Done.”

Alfa Mist is one of the driving forces behind a young and vibrant scene of UK musicians, who’ve taken on jazz as their musical narrative. On his new album Bring Backs the producer, self-taught pianist and rapper takes us on a sonic trip back to his beat-making past on the streets of East London, through the depth and musicality he discovered composing and playing jazz.2017 saw the release of Alfa’s breakthrough record, Antiphon and the 2019’s album Structuralism were both self-released on his Sekito label. His latest endeavour, 2021’s Bring Backs, sees Alfa taking on new challenges. The record marks his first release for the label Anti and is also the most detailed exploration of his upbringing in musical form.
