ANNE QUEFFELEC – DEBUSSY: 12 ETUDES (LP VINYL)
“Both a challenge and an adventure, the recording I made of Debussy’s Etudes lives on as a wonderful memory,” writes the admired French pianist Anne Queffelec. “Taking the genre beyond the dry term ‘study’, Debussy and Chopin, both true geniuses, dazzle and move their listeners. Within this music lies life, anything but abstract.”
Queffelec, who comes from a distinguished literary family, trained in Paris and Vienna. Gramophone magazine has described her recordings as “Outstanding … thoughtful, poetic …” and “Articulate, clear-textured and vivacious …” She recorded Debussy’s 12 Etudes in 1980 at the Musee Guimet in Paris with Catherine Collard as her producer. The venue was appropriate, since it is dedicated to Asian culture: Japanese visual art and Indonesian gamelan music were both significant inspirations in Debussy’s evolution as a composer.

Rory Gallagher’s most successful albums are his live ones, such as “Live! In Europe” and “Irish Tour ’74”. He was an artist that came alive when onstage and this album covers a previously undocumented live period. This twenty-three (23) song, previously unreleased, set is culled from two nights at the Town & Country Club (now the O2 Forum) in London, UK. Rory was touring in support of his then latest (and sadly, last album) ‘Fresh Evidence’. Featuring fantastic live versions of tracks from that album as well as songs from the 1987 ‘Defender’ album plus other career favourites. This new album has been mixed from the recently found multi tracks and mastered at Abbey Road. The album’s cover is a painting by Irish graffiti artist ‘Vincent Zara’ who has stenciled Rory’s image across his home country. Rory Gallagher was an Irish musician, songwriter, and producer. He formed the blues rock trio Taste in 1966, which experienced success in the UK and Europe before he pursued a solo career, releasing music throughout the 1970s and 1980s and selling more than 30 million records worldwide. Gallagher is known for his virtuoso guitar playing, which strongly influenced other guitarists such as Sir Brian May and Slash. Rory was listed as the 57th greatest guitarist of all time by Rolling Stone magazine and the Greatest Irish Music Artist by Irish Radio.SKU: 602448825001 -

This new pressing of bassist Leroy Vinnegar’s first album as a leader Leroy Walks! is released as part of Acoustic Sounds celebration of Contemporary Records. Originally released in 1958 the album sees Victor Feldman, Gerald Wilson, Teddy Edwards, Carl Perkins, and Tony Bazley joining Vinnegar. The album was recorded in July and September 1957 and released in 1958. With six of the seven songs including the word “walk” in their title, including “Would You Like to Take a Walk,” “Walkin’ My Baby Back Home,” “I’ll Walk Alone,” and Vinnegar’s original “Walk On.” Vinnegar actually does not take much solo space and generously features his talented sidemen: vibraphonist Victor Feldman, trumpeter Gerald Wilson, tenor saxophonist Teddy Edwards, pianist Carl Perkins, and drummer Tony Bazley. Recorded by legendary engineer Roy DuNann this edition is pressed on 180-gram vinyl pressed at QRP with All-Analog mastering from the original tapes by Bernie Grundman and is presented in a tip-on jacket.SKU: 888072471481 -

Acoustic Sounds celebrates Contemporary Records with this new reissue of the West Side Story album by pianist Andre Previn, bassist Red Mitchell and drummer Shelly Manne. Originally released in 1960, the album contains 8 cuts from the musical soundtrack reinterpreted in a jazz style. The last of a series of showtune albums recorded by the Previn—Mitchell—Manne trio finds the all-star group focusing on the music of West Side Story (Previn and Manne alternated leadership, and it was the drummer’s good fortune to have the famous My Fair Lady album under his own name). This album has eight of the main themes from the famous musical, including “I Feel Pretty,” “Maria” and “America.” As usual, the melodies are treated respectfully yet swingingly, and Andre Previn in particular excels in this setting.
