When the gates of the world slammed shut in 2020, German metal spearheads CALIBAN focused their energies in the studio. The results were nothing short of prolific: at first, Zeitgeister, a collection of classic CALIBAN songs re-done in their native German, but more importantly, a brand-new album, Dystopia. The approach was instinctive and organic. The result was simply, darker and heavier. A state of the world address and a sign of these locked-down times. The band members worked in relative isolation, not being able to meet up for writing sessions. Ideas were passed around via the internet. Yet, the anxiety and angst they were all feeling came through. Hence the opening line of the album opening title track and war-cry: “Welcome Dystopia – Come show me who you are!” Amidst the anger and sonic wreckage, there’s still a ghost of hopefulness as the band searches for identity, solidarity and ultimately rising from dystopian ashes. Produced by Benjamin Richter (Moonspell, Emil Bulls) and guitarist Marc Gortz as well as co-produced by Callan Orr (Dream On, Dreamer), Dystopia features contributions from Christoph Wieczorek of Annisokay on the track “Dystopia”, Jonny Davy of Job For A Cowboy on “Dragon” and Marcus Bischoff of Heaven Shall Burn on “VirUS”. Following the release of Moral Panic and Moral Panic II in 2020 & 2021, Southend five-piece Nothing But Thieves have announced they will release the two projects together as a physical release on vinyl with Moral Panic: The Complete Edition. Moral Panic II followed the band’s acclaimed third album Moral Panic, with both releases sharing a connection thematically and lyrically. Two reflective bodies of work tinged with emotion, anger and hope, the records openly and passionately discussed many issues we face in modern society today. Written separately, but with the band always feeling that they should be enjoyed as one project, both records are already available to stream as one release, but they will now both be released together physically as a 16-track vinyl as Moral Panic: The Complete Edition.The EP featured 5 new tracks, including the singles Futureproof and Miracle, Baby, which followed the original Moral Panic singles Is Everybody Going Crazy?, Real Love Song, Phobia and Impossible.

On paper, the latest studio offering from the Canadian singer first took shape shortly after the global pandemic began to emerge.
