Stanley Turrentine’s 1964 recording Mr. Natural featured the soulful tenor saxophonist and Blue Note stalwart at the helm of a cutting-edge modern jazz group with Lee Morgan on trumpet, McCoy Tyner on piano, Bob Cranshaw on bass, Elvin Jones on drums, and Ray Barretto on congas for three songs. This stereo Tone Poet Vinyl Edition was produced by Joe Harley, mastered by Kevin Gray from the original analog master tapes, pressed on 180g vinyl at RTI, and packaged in a deluxe gatefold tip-on jacket.

Following the success of his vocal debut Chet Baker Sings in 1954, Pacific Jazz brought the rising star trumpeter back into the studio the next year for the sequel Chet Baker Sings and Plays which showcased both sides of Baker’s artistry on a set of standards including his timeless rendition of “Let’s Get Lost.” This mono Tone Poet Vinyl Edition was produced by Joe Harley, mastered by Kevin Gray from the original analog master tapes, pressed on 180g vinyl at RTI, and packaged in a deluxe tip-on jacket.

This new pressing of bassist Leroy Vinnegar’s first album as a leader Leroy Walks! is released as part of Acoustic Sounds celebration of Contemporary Records. Originally released in 1958 the album sees Victor Feldman, Gerald Wilson, Teddy Edwards, Carl Perkins, and Tony Bazley joining Vinnegar. The album was recorded in July and September 1957 and released in 1958. With six of the seven songs including the word “walk” in their title, including “Would You Like to Take a Walk,” “Walkin’ My Baby Back Home,” “I’ll Walk Alone,” and Vinnegar’s original “Walk On.” Vinnegar actually does not take much solo space and generously features his talented sidemen: vibraphonist Victor Feldman, trumpeter Gerald Wilson, tenor saxophonist Teddy Edwards, pianist Carl Perkins, and drummer Tony Bazley. Recorded by legendary engineer Roy DuNann this edition is pressed on 180-gram vinyl pressed at QRP with All-Analog mastering from the original tapes by Bernie Grundman and is presented in a tip-on jacket.

Acoustic Sounds celebrates Contemporary Records with this new reissue of the West Side Story album by pianist Andre Previn, bassist Red Mitchell and drummer Shelly Manne. Originally released in 1960, the album contains 8 cuts from the musical soundtrack reinterpreted in a jazz style. The last of a series of showtune albums recorded by the Previn—Mitchell—Manne trio finds the all-star group focusing on the music of West Side Story (Previn and Manne alternated leadership, and it was the drummer’s good fortune to have the famous My Fair Lady album under his own name). This album has eight of the main themes from the famous musical, including “I Feel Pretty,” “Maria” and “America.” As usual, the melodies are treated respectfully yet swingingly, and Andre Previn in particular excels in this setting. Recorded by legendary engineer Roy DuNann this edition is pressed on 180-gram vinyl pressed at QRP with All-Analog mastering from the original tapes by Bernie Grundman and is presented in a tip-on jacket.
