This album represents the long sought-after release of Creedence Clearwater Revival’s legendary Woodstock performance in its entirety. CCR were one of the few bands to appear at Woodstock, who had already achieved notable chart success. However, for many their appearance flew under the radar – largely in part to the band not appearing in the movie or the soundtrack which were released post-festival. Their hour-long set took place shortly after midnight on 17 August 1969, a later than planned start due to the Grateful Dead’s set over-running. Kicking off with “Born on the Bayou,” the album features the band’s biggest singles of the day, plus selections off their first three LPs, including “Commotion,” “Ninety-Nine and a Half (Won’t Do)” and “Bootleg.” Full of creative energy, John, Tom, Stu, and Doug delve deep into their music, playing extended improvisations of “I Put a Spell on You,” “Keep on Chooglin’” and “Suzie Q.”
During an all too short four-year run that spanned 1968 to 1972, Creedence Clearwater Revival crafted some of the most popular, influential and enduring music that the world has ever known. Californian-based John Fogerty, Tom Fogerty, Doug Clifford and Stu Cook fused the raw, organic honesty of country music with the fire and urgency of rock ‘n’ roll to create a catalogue that even five decades later still sounds fresh and vibrant. This collection brings together some of Creedence’s biggest and best recordings and also features two live tracks to showcase what a formidable live act the group were.
For years, rumors have circulated about a long-lost Creedence Clearwater Revival recording, captured at their April 1970 concert at London’s Royal Albert Hall. It all began in 1980—nearly a decade after the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers parted ways—when a live CCR album was mistakenly titled “The Royal Albert Hall Concert.” It was quickly discovered that the recording was not from the historic London venue, but instead from a January 1970 show at the Oakland Coliseum in California. While that album was stickered with correctional information and duly renamed The Concert for later production runs, actual audio from Royal Albert Hall remained unreleased…until now! This album marks the first official release of the highly-anticipated recording of, Creedence Clearwater Revival at the Royal Albert Hall, offering the complete live show from that legendary night. The fiery set includes CCR classics such as “Fortunate Son,” “Proud Mary,” “Born on the Bayou,” “Travelin’ Band” and much more.
