This Christmas themed album by the “Queen of Jazz” featuring an orchestra was released in 1960. All the tracks on ‘Ella Wishes You a Swinging Christmas’ are prominent Christmas seasonal songs like ‘Santa Claus Is Coming To town’ and ‘Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer’, in contrast to her second Christmas album from 1967 which contained only of religious Christmas songs. Ella Fitzgerald was known for her purity of tone, impeccable diction, phrasing, timing, intonation, and a “horn-like” improvisational ability. Her accolades include 14 Grammy Awards, the National Medal of Arts, the NAACP’s inaugural President’s Award, and the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
