This edition presents the classic double album in its intirely. The first of the celebrated songbooks recorded by Ella and one of the best vocal jazz albums ever made. The Cole Porter Songbook was inducted into The Grammy Hall of Fame in 2000 which honors recordings that have “qualitative or historical significance”. In 2003 it was one of the 50 recordings chosen by The Library of Congress in Washinton to be added to the National Recording Registry. A live version of “Love for Sale” from the same period, which showcases Ella in a small band setting, has been added as a bonustrack.

Ella Fitzgerald never released a live version of these Songbooks. This landmark record, discovered in the private collection of producer Norman Granz, will be the first time a live Songbook has been released from the First Lady of Song. This album is a first in a number of other respects, as well: although she performed regularly at the Bowl, this is the first full-length concert by Ella from this iconic venue to be released. Furthermore, it documents the only time Ella worked in concert with Paul Weston, the gifted arrangerconductor of her Irving Berlin Songbook album.
