Nintendo Switch OLED represents a new, improved version of the hybrid home-portable console. Although its performance is the same as older models – the same processor and graphics card, with the same amount of working memory – it is better in every other sense. If you already own a Switch, you’ll need to consider whether the difference is big enough to buy a new one; however, if you are buying it for the first time, the OLED version is without a shadow of a doubt the best choice.
The OLED screen of the new model has a 2cm longer diagonal than the old one, but that is not the main difference. The manufacturing technology itself means that instead of a common backlight, this screen illuminates each pixel individually. In practice, this guarantees a more vivid picture, better color, stronger contrast and, in general, a nicer atmosphere.
In addition, the Nintendo Switch OLED model has an extended adjustable angle stand, which means that gaming in the so-called tabletop mode with it to be much more comfortable. In addition to better stability, the new stand also allows the screen angle to be adjusted so that the effect of light reflection from the environment is minimized.
If playing with others via the Internet means a lot to you, you will be pleased to know that the new console has a built-in LAN input – it can be connected to the Internet via a cable, which in home conditions is a far more reliable solution than a wireless one. Finally, there is an increased storage capacity – instead of the previous 32, the new model comes with 64 GB of space, which means that buying a memory card to expand it is no longer necessary.
Other than that, everything is the same. It is still a console that is both portable and indoor. In portable mode, the console uses a built-in display, with controllers attached to the side. In the mentioned tabletop mode, the display stands on the table supported by a stand, and the controllers are separated from it – this way it is possible to play multiplayer games. Finally, there is home mode, where the console is docked, which then connects to the TV and allows for classic gaming in front of the TV.
The Nintendo Switch OLED is by far the best model of this console at the moment, and you won’t go wrong if you decide to buy it.
